A departmental fact-finding report has revealed corruption worth billion rupees in the contracts of Pakistan Television (PTV) Sports including rights for Pakistan Super League (PSL) and T20 WorldCup.
According to the report, contracts were issued to favour companies and taxes of favoured parties were also waived. Billions of rupees were lost to the national exchequer and loss-making PTV. The investigation report also revealed that illegal acts were carried out on the direct orders of former Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan. Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry was also present at the awarding of PTV Sports contracts.
According to sources, it has been decided to take action on the loss of billions of rupees and violation of rules and regulations. Sources said that financial and legal crimes were committed in PSL 7, 8 and World Cup contracts. Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) Rules, PTV board rules and regulations were violated, bidding process was flawed and non-transparent.
Sources said that the bidders were deliberately excluded from the competitive process in a non-transparent manner.
Furthermore, sources reveal that the adoption of dubious, manipulated methods has caused huge financial losses to PTV. Not all companies were provided with a fair competitive environment, which resulted in huge financial losses to PTV.
According to sources, legal action has been initiated against PTV Sports for awarding contracts and paying billions of rupees against the rules. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has obtained other important evidence and records, including a fact-finding report. Moreover, the FIA has also obtained a record of PSL contracts.
