COVID-19: Big rise in the coronavirus toll in UK

According to the recent reports, the number of people affected by the coronavirus in the UK has risen drastically within 24 hours, raising alarm and panic among the people.
The toll in the UK has risen by 676 in the last 24 hours, the biggest daily leap, taking the total to 2,626. The latest number of UK deaths linked to COVID-19 now stands at 104.
It was reported that 56,221 people had been tested for coronavirus in the UK, of which 53,595 were negative as of today, 18th March 2020.
There are now 227 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 across Scotland, while the number of confirmed cases in Northern Ireland has risen by six to 68.
Leaders shut Europe’s borders to fight outbreak
In Wales, a further 13 people have been diagnosed with the virus, bringing the total number of confirmed cases there to 149.
More than 200,000 cases have been confirmed worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University, which is monitoring the outbreak.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced to take precautionary measures amid the outbreak of the coronavirus earlier this week, including advising everyone in the country to avoid pubs, clubs, restaurants, and theatres and to only make essential journeys.
With the increasing number of deaths worldwide, each country is taking serious steps to contain the spread of the virus.
