Lahore, 15th July: Increase in the Delta variant COVID-19 cases fuels concerns, after the tally soars overnight.

According to details, the Indian Delta variant now threatens Pakistan after reports of 2,545 new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours.

With Eid-ul-Azha approaching, the Delta variant appears to be taking hold in the country after a massive 28.5% increase over the 1,980 cases reported a day ago.

This is the first time, Pakistan has reported more than 2,500 cases since May, 29 when 2,697 cases were reported.

Meanwhile, Asad Umar, Federal Minister for Planning and Head of the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) has also warned that if the right decisions are not taken, Pakistan could face a situation similar to India with regard to the pandemic.

Authorities have warned of a fourth wave of the coronavirus, urging the public to take precautionary measures against the virus and to get vaccinated.

In the last 24 hours, the number of cases reported is 2,545, whereas, 48,910 tests were performed to diagnose the virus, which resulted in 5.2% positive cases. Meanwhile, 47 deaths have been reported during the last 24 hours.

As per data collected from NCOC, the highest number of cases in the last 24 hours was recorded in Sindh with 1,420 and 26 patients lost their lives.

According to the NCOC, in view of the rapid spread of COVID-19 in Sindh, the provincial government has decided to close indoor dining, schools for students from class I to VI, all recreational facilities, swimming pools and the indoor gyms from Monday (July 19).
