Dera Ghazi Khan (Web Desk/Dr. Mustafa Badani): A comprehensive strategy has been developed to enhance surveillance in the tribal areas of Dera Ghazi Khan to curb smuggling in South Punjab. As part of this initiative, new check posts are under construction, where joint forces will be deployed, and fresh recruitments are being made in the Border Military Police (BMP).
It was briefed by Commissioner D.G. Khan, Ashfaq Ahmed Chaudhry, during a meeting with Additional Chief Secretary South Punjab, Fuad Hashim Rabbani.

The Additional Chief Secretary directed strict measures to combat smuggling, emphasizing that the smuggling of Iranian oil is causing significant revenue losses to the country, while fertilizer smuggling is leading to shortages in South Punjab. He also revealed intelligence reports regarding the smuggling of modern weaponry, stressing the need for a decisive crackdown on those involved in illegal activities. He instructed that infrastructure development in the Koh-e-Suleman region should be accelerated and drone technology should be employed for surveillance.

During the briefing, Commissioner Ashfaq Ahmed Chaudhry stated that joint teams of the Border Force have been set up to curb inter-provincial smuggling, and recruitment in the Border Military Police (BMP) is ongoing. He further informed that 16 BMP check posts have been established, and tenders have been issued for constructing three major check posts to facilitate the deployment of joint forces.
Additionally, under the Koh-e-Suleman Improvement Project, 15 roads have been completed, while work on eight more is underway.
The briefing also revealed that over the past year, 268 smugglers have been arrested, 216 cases have been registered, and 278 vehicles have been confiscated.
