Other comrades namely Fahad Naseem, Sheikh Adil and Salman Saqib were also transferred. According to jail sources, the families of the four accused will now be able to meet easily. The accused will also be shifted to the rest house soon, as per court orders.
All four are accused of killing American journalist Daniel Pearl, in 2002.
It is to be noted that the Supreme Court had ordered immediate removal of Ahmed Omar Sheikh and others from the death cell. The Supreme Court ordered that families be allowed to stay together at the government rest house from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ahmed Omar Sheikh should be kept in a rest house with security. However, mobile phone and internet facilities should not be provided.

Justice Umar Ata Bandial said that the Sindh High Court had declared the detention of Omar Sheikh and other accused as malicious. Is the main accused Omar Sheikh a Pakistani citizen or a foreigner? On which the Attorney General said that Ahmed Umar Sheikh has the citizenship of Pakistan and the United Kingdom. Justice Umar Ata Bandial said that detaining someone means keeping him in jail without trial. Justice Sajjad Ali Shah said that even in the video of Daniel Pearl’s murder, the face of the accused was not clear.
The court said that Ahmed Omar Sheikh should be kept in an open room in a better place in the jail for two days. After two days, Ahmed Omar Sheikh should be transferred to the Government Rest House. The accused should be provided comfortable accommodation and transport facility with Karachi family, all necessary arrangements should be completed in two days.

It may be recalled that on April 2, the Sindh High Court had ruled on the appeals filed by four accused in the murder case following the abduction of American journalist Daniel Pearl and had accepted three appeals. However, the death sentence of the main accused Omar Sheikh was modified to 7 years imprisonment.

The bench in its judgment granted the plea of 3 accused and ordered their release. However, the death sentence of Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh alias Sheikh Omar was commuted to 7 years imprisonment. Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, who has been in jail for the past 18 years, was expected to be released after his full sentence of seven years was counted.
However, on April 3, a major breakthrough came and the Sindh Home Department, at the request of the CIA DIG, remanded the four accused in custody for another 90 days. This is the second petition in the Supreme Court against the decision of the Sindh High Court in the murder case of a journalist. The Sindh government had on April 22 challenged the decision of the Sindh High Court in the murder case of journalist Daniel Pearl in the Supreme Court. On April 28, the Sindh government had approached the Supreme Court for an early hearing of its petition.
