The death toll from the corona virus in Brazil rose to 49,976 on Saturday.
According to the Ministry of Health, the virus has been confirmed in 1,067,579 people so far, but there are fears that the number could rise due to inadequate testing.
Brazil has the second highest number of deaths in the world after the United States.Experts say the pandemic in Brazil is still several weeks away from its peak and that the virus is spreading to the country’s riverine areas and indigenous communities.
Chile, another Latin American country, announced on Saturday that it would add another 3,069 number of deaths to its figures under a new counting method.
So far, more than 237,000 certified victims have been identified. With the revised figures, the death toll there will rise to more than 7,000.
The mayor of Mexico City, has postponed plans to open a business until the number of new cases of the corona virus is reduced.
He says the worst lockdown in the city will continue until next week.
The corona virus has killed 20,000 people in Mexico so far, with more than 170,000 confirmed cases, but the number is expected to rise due to inadequate testing. Mexico City is the most affected region in the country.
