Defence Minister Parvez Khattak Denies Secret Talks with TTP

PESHAWAR: Defence Minister of Pakistan Pervez Khattak has said that no secret talks are being held with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Afghanistan or Pakistan.

According to details, the Afghan government has assured that its territory will not be used against Pakistan. Talking to media in Nowshera on Sunday, the defence minister said that Afghanistan would be recognized only after consultation with all countries in the region. The whole world must cooperate to bring peace to Afghanistan.

It should be noted that Prime Minister Imran Khan had said that if the banned TTP surrenders, they will be forgiven. “I always say that negotiations are necessary to move forward,” the premier told Turkish TV.

The Taliban government is cooperating in the talks. Negotiations are underway with some banned groups.

While talking to media Khan said “in fact, many Taliban groups in Pakistan want talks with my government for peace and reconciliation and we are negotiating with them.”

“Different groups have formed the TTP and we are in talks with many of them,” Imran Khan added.

When asked if the talks were being held to get the TTP to lay down arms, the Prime Minister said yes so that they could be part of the society. When the Prime Minister was asked if there could be an agreement as a result of these talks, Imran Khan said yes because he does not believe in a military solution, “I am against a military solution”.
