Rejecting the report, Delhi Police spokesperson Anil Metal termed it as biased and said that the police had played a transparent role. More than 1,400 people have been arrested in connection with the riots.

BJP spokesperson Harish Kharana said, “Delhi Police has told the court that if no role of Kapil Sharma has come to light, then on what basis is the DMC saying this?” The police failed to intervene in the riots and a lot of facts were gathered in this regard.

The DMC report states that “the commission has received reports that the police were inactive in the face of the attackers during the violence or did not arrive at the scene despite being summoned.”

It may be recalled that protests against the controversial citizenship law had been going on in India since December 2019, but during the first visit of US President Donald Trump to India, on February 24 in the Indian capital New Delhi, these demonstrations suddenly turned into religious riots.

The religious riots erupted when thousands of people protested against the controversial citizenship law in New Delhi, where they were suddenly attacked by extremists and miscreants, which turned the protests into religious riots.

At least 53 people were killed and more than 400 injured during the riots, while a large Muslim population was targeted in Delhi.

The Indian Supreme Court, while hearing a petition against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), questioned the performance of the police, saying “if the police had done their duty, the angry people could not have survived”.
