London: Last week, data was released regarding Dexamethasone, a promising drug in the treatment of coronavirus, which is proving to be beneficial for critical coronavirus patients.

A study published in the British medical journal, ‘The Lancet’, a week ago said that the use of dexamethasone on coronavirus patients could reduce their risk of death.

After a successful trial of the drug at Oxford University, it was found that out of the 2,100 patients on the ventilator who were given dexamethasone, 30 per cent survived.

Now British experts have published the results of the trial online. British experts gave the drug to 2,100 coronavirus patients and compared them to 4,321 patients who had not been given the drug.

According to British experts, dexamethasone reduced the risk of death by one-third (40%) of patients who went on a ventilator, while those who were given oxygen in addition to a ventilator reduced their risk of death by 25%.

According to experts, this medicine is useless for patients who have mild coronavirus disease, they can recover with extra caution and do not need oxygen support.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has also said that dexamethasone should be given to patients whose condition is critical, as the drug can only work in such patients.
