Director of Gaza’s biggest hospital arrested, says Hamas-led health ministry
The director of Gaza’s biggest hospital has been arrested by the Israel Defence Forces, the Hamas-led health ministry has said.
Dr Selmeya was detained along with members of medical staff at al Shifa, a spokesman for the ministry said.
The facility has been a major focus of Israel’s ground operation in northern Gaza, with troops raiding it last week.
The IDF has claimed Hamas is using a tunnel complex beneath the hospital to stage attacks and hide hostages – an allegation the militant group has denied.
“Dr Selmeya, director of Al Shifa Hospital, as well as some of the medical staff still present in the hospital, have been arrested,” Dr Ashraf al Qudra said.
