Dr. Javed Akram expresses concern over the new strain of corona virus

Baaghi TV: Dr. Javed Akram gives advice for the prevention of new type of corona virus which is labelled as extremely dangerous.

Dr. Javed Akram, Vice Chancellor of National University of Health and Sciences, while expressing concern over the new variant of Corona in South Africa, said that the vaccine could control this variant to a great extent, this variant is more dangerous than other variants as it completely destroys the lungs. For efficient prevention we need to speed up our vaccination process as a first priority. People need to be vaccinated as soon as possible.

New Zealand also imposed travel restrictions after the new Corona type, only New Zealand citizens will be able to return from African countries, citizens will have to be quarantined for 14 days before entering the country.  Corona has been diagnosed in 61 passengers on two flights from South Africa to the Netherlands. According to the Netherlands Health Department, the patients who have tested positive are being suspected of carrying a new form of the virus known as the Omicron variant.

On the other hand, the qualifier round of Sri Lanka and West Indies Women’s World Cup has been canceled. Thailand vs USA and Pakistan vs Zimbabwe matches will be on schedule.

Due to the new and more fatal strain of corona, several airlines have banned flights from African countries. Europe cuts off all travel routes along the South African region while United States, Canada, France, Netherlands, Morocco, UAE and Bahrain have also decided on travel bans. South Africa has also cancelled the Junior Women Hockey World Cup which was scheduled for 5th December. Most cases of corona over a month were reported in Britain where experts are calling the new strain of corona a more alarming virus.

Australia imposes travel bans on 9 African countries amid fears of new corona outbreak. South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi and Mozambique are banned from travelling. On the other hand, Indian Prime Minister Modi has convened a meeting to prevent the new virus of corona in India. The meeting will also discuss the corona vaccine in India, while a high-level meeting, chaired by Modi, will be attended by Cabinet Secretary, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister PK Mishra, Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan and Niti Ayog member Dr VK Pal and other officials.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Delhi, Kejriwal has demanded Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to suspend flights to the affected countries to avoid the new strain of Corona virus from entering as India had much trouble controlling the previous wave. The Union Ministry of Health India has instructed all the states to monitor and test the passengers traveling to these three countries. The Indian Secretary of Health has written to the states and said that new type of corona has emerged, so corona tests should be made mandatory for international travelers, those who have traveled to these countries should be traced and tested. On the other hand, the UK has also banned flights from six African countries.

The World Trade Organization has also postponed the 12th Ministerial Conference. The decision to postpone the conference was taken by the President of the General Council after consultation with the members.

It should be noted that a beta version was also discovered in South Africa at the end of 2020. Due to the new type of corona, the number of serious COVID cases during the second wave of epidemic in South Africa has increased compared to the first wave.
