Earthquake strikes near Gilgit, Skardu

A magnitude 5 earthquake took place 61km west-northwest of Skardu, Pakistan at few minutes ago. It’s depth was 60km and was reported by European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).

According to the details, the earthquake affected Skardu and surrounding areas of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) as reported by EMSC. Apart from Skardu, strong tremors were also felt in Gilgit city, Diamer, Ghizer and surrounding areas.

A strong earthquake also shook the upper and lower areas of Khurramang district and Ghanche District. Tremors were also felt in Chilas and Astor. At the time of the earthquake, the citizens came out of their houses reciting the Kalima Tayyaba.

The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
