Lahore, 29th July: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has served a show-cause notice to Prime Minister Imran Khan for not holding an intra-party election in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as its chairman.

According to details, ECP served a show-cause notice to PM Khan on Thursday for not holding an intra-party election in PTI as the party’s chairman.

The Election Commission has given a 14-day period to sought a reply from the prime minister for not holding the elections as stipulated in ECP rules.

In its notice to the premier, ECP stated that PTI had to issue the details on the intra-party election on June 13. Furthermore, all parties are responsible to hold elections within a given time as per Section 208 of the Election Act 2017.

The statement further read, “A period not exceeding five years shall intervene between any two elections.”

The notice served to the PTI head Imran Khan asked him to show cause as to why the party should not be declared ineligible to obtain an election symbol for the upcoming election. The election symbol is a requirement for the party to contest elections as per section 215(1) of the election act.
