Effects of Modern Technology on our Millennial Generation

Millennials at the very beginning constrained their social and individual boundaries when introduced to technology, which exposed them to various issues and led them towards an unending dilemma to decide between right and wrong.

Although technology in its true essence brought millennials the facilities and ease to ensure a happy life, the current scenarios of destructive behaviors seem to counterbalance the claim. The behavioral changes accompanying technological advancement are mainly evident in distorted norms, ineffective social controls, and scattered family life.

In order to assess the effects of modern technology on our millennial generation, we should focus on individual and then on social impacts that are the results of technological advancement. Individuality can be defined by the way we as human beings interact with society and creating an impact on others.

Now, this social interaction and communication have changed drastically, where people are mainly stuck to their phones, laptops, and computers. The need for communicating with friends and family has dropped and has shifted from physical to virtual techniques. Kids and adults sharing the same room and floor have very little interaction daily and are mainly focused on their screens. A family is seemingly a family and is a crowd of persons in reality.

Amid all the above scenarios, there rise various issues which may affect our physical as well mental health. People’s contribution to society has shrunken and has helped in weakening the socials fabrics of the society and family.

We have gone too far in the quest for wealth and technological advancement and have left our life empty and filed it with greed and unwanted things. We have no consideration for our needs and those of the others surrounding us. It seems like it is the interaction of human beings with machines rather than themselves that will eventually lead towards an unwanted destination in an unending journey. It is the need of the hour and the right time to reconsider our pattern of living with technology and abstain from the overuse of technological tools that may undermine our social as well as individual life.
