Emergency Meeting: PM Khan to meet Putin, Xi Jinping

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan is ready for an emergency meeting after the Russian and Chinese presidents have expressed their desire to meet.

According to top officials from Islamabad, the Prime Minister has decided to leave for overseas on September 15, 2021 (today). Media reports reveal that PM Khan will attend the scheduled Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Dushanbe. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will also accompany the Prime Minister on Saturday.

Regarding the special visit of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the responsible sources said that a meeting between PM Khan and the Russian President Vladimir Putin has also been arranged in Dushanbe. Imran Khan and Putin will meet on the sidelines of the SCO summit. According to diplomatic sources, besides the Russian President, the Prime Minister will also meet Chinese President Xi Jinping.

It may be recalled that before these reports, Prime Minister Khan and Russian President Putin had a telephone conversation on Tuesday evening, during which the latest situation in Afghanistan, bilateral relations and cooperation in the SCO summit were discussed.

On this occasion, PM Imran Khan invited Russian President Putin to visit Pakistan. The Russian President also invited the Prime Minister to visit Russia. The two leaders have another contact in a few days.

The two leaders also agreed to stay in close touch. Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the international community should not leave the people of Afghanistan alone at a critical juncture, Afghanistan needs to be helped and saved from the economic crisis.

PM Khan and Vladimir Putin also pledged to further strengthen and further enhance the overall relationship between the two countries. Talking to the Russian President, the PM vowed to implement the Pakistan Gas Stream Pipeline project as soon as possible.
