King of Hip Hop, Eminem takes legal action against the Australian brand named “Swim Shady” named after his alter ego “Slim Shady“.

Eminem’s legal team claims that the Australian beach brand is confusing consumers. However, this is not new as US rappers have filed lawsuits against Australian brands before.

The “Controversary” rapper, named Marshall Mathers III, filed the petition with the US Patent and Trademark Office on Sep. 29th. The filing was obtained by reporters.
The Australian brand talked to BBC giving their official statement saying that they would, “defend our valuable intellectual property”. Additionally, the company’s name was registered in September 2023 as by business regulator of Australia. Moreover, the original name for the brand was Slim Shade officially launched in 2024.

The brand is known to sell portable beach accessories, umbrellas and other swim bags. As per the company, “Swim Shady is a grass roots Australian company that was born out of a desire to produce stylish and effective sun shades and other items to protect from the harsh Australian sun.”
Eminem shot the hit single in 2000 and achieved fame. Moreover, he earned a Grammy for his solo performance in rap genre. As per Eminem’s legal team, the name carries a “distinctive and famous” name. Moreover, the team believes that this name is associated with Eminem’s rap career.

Swim shady is given time till 28th November to respond to Eminem’s petition.
Lastly, Eminem is set to trademark another name that is “Mom Spaghetti.” The name got famous after the release of 2002 hit named “Lose Yourself.” The pasta sauce brand and pop-up shop launched in 2017. Later on, it turned into a permanent restaurant in Detroit in 2021.
