Incarcerated Member of Indian Parliament from Baramulla, Engineer Abdul Rashid, has begun a 48-hour hunger strike inside Delhi’s Tihar Jail to protest the continued denial of justice to the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi, in a statement issued in Srinagar, said Engineer Rashid started his symbolic strike at 11 a.m. today, as conveyed in his letter to the Director General of Prisons. The protest will continue until the morning of September 22.

Inam Un Nabi said the strike aims to call out the hypocrisy of the Indian government, which has turned a blind eye to the unending pain, sacrifices and human rights violations suffered by the Kashmiri people.

He added that Er Rashid has dedicated his strike to awaken the conscience of the people and remind them that thousands of lives have been lost in occupied Jammu and Kashmir since 1989 due to the unresolved dispute.
