May 25, 2021: Following Israel’s aggression on Gaza, a campaign against Facebook has been launched on social media sites since last week.

BaaghiTV: In the past, app ratings have been used as a weapon by people to object to a company’s policy, but the campaign facing Facebook has also dealt a significant blow to the company’s reputation. The reason for this campaign seems to be the suppression of the voice of Palestinians on Facebook. It so happened that due to the duplicitous policy of Facebook, Muslims, especially Pakistanis, expressed their feelings in protest from 5 stars to 1 star and in the comments, causing a huge decline in the popularity of Facebook and Facebook Lite.

In the wake of the Israeli aggression, the Facebook administration shut down thousands of accounts in protest of Muslims expressing solidarity with Palestinian Muslims. Muslims, especially Pakistanis, protested and went to the Google Play Store to replace the 5-star Facebook application. 1 star and also expressed his feelings in the comments. 2.3 while in the Google Play Store it has dropped from 5 to 2.4 while these users have also used the hashtag of #freePalestine or #GazaUnderattack.

On the other hand, this campaign was taken very seriously within Facebook and it was given the status of SEV1 which is the nickname of severity 1. This term is used within the company when the website is facing a big problem. According to NBC News, SEV1 is the second most important priority issue for Facebook, followed by SEV0, a term used when a website is down.

“The recent conflict between Israel and Palestine has significantly eroded consumer confidence in Facebook, and our users are upset about the way we handle the situation,” said a senior software engineer at Facebook’s internal messaging board. The engineer said that the users feel that their posts are being censored, their reach is being restricted and their voice is being silenced as a result of which the users started giving 1 star reviews in protest.

According to leaked screenshots of the discussion within the company, Facebook asked Apple to delete negative reviews from the App Store, but Apple refused to accept. Google did not respond to this request, it is not clear what their response will be.

A Facebook spokesperson said in a statement: “Our policies are designed to protect the voice of everyone, with the protection of users. We apply these policies equally, regardless of what the user does.”

“We have a team, including Arabic and Hebrew speakers, who can closely monitor the situation and remove harmful material,” the spokesman said. However, Google and Apple have not yet commented on the matter.
