June 8, 2021: According to an official announcement shared via the social media channels of Lahore based Overload band, the face of the band, producer, lead vocalist and drummer, Farhad Humayun has left this earthly abode forever.
The social media post said the singer passed away on Tuesday and requested fans to pray for the departed soul.
The post called him a phenomenon and a magnificent presence who always stood tall and stoic in the face of adversity and challenges. He had values that he stood up for, was generous and witty, and in addition to being ahead of his time in spirit and art, he was uncompromising on his beliefs and values.
The post further said it the best way to celebrate his full life was to honour him by remembering him in prayers from his family friends and fans. The post quoted lyrics from a David Bowie song to honour him and likened his departure from this world to a much better place as the song lyrics go, ‘I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring’. The post from the band wished him luck on his next journey saying, “Godspeed our gentle giant and thank you for creating a Riot!”
Meanwhile, aside from the band he created, his cousin and musician, Taimur Rehman also confrimed the news of Humayun’s death and shared the sad news on social media site Twitter. Rehman remembered his cousin as an incredible musician and artist and said there is now a huge void where his larger than life personality used to be.
Fans and celebrities took to their social media after hearing about the singer’s death to pay tribute to him and to pray for his eternal peace. In the official announcement, Humayun’s cause of death was not revealed by the band. However, the singer had revealed in 2018 that he was getting a surgery done for a brain tumour.
He had formed the band Overload in 2003 after starting his career as an underground musician. He was previously the drummer for two other bands that he created, Co-Ven and Mindriot.
