Federal Minister Shazia Marri condemns Israeli atrocities at Al-Aqsa
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety (PA&AS), Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Shazia Marri, has condemned the anti-Muslim violence in India and the atrocities by the Israeli forces at Muslim places of worship. She has urged a need for cooperation and unity to overcome the ongoing politico-economic turmoil.
Addressing the National Assembly on Thursday, the Federal Minister condemned the recent atrocities committed by Israeli forces at Al-Aqsa Mosque, in Jerusalem, considered to be one of the holiest places in Islam.

The PPP leader also spoke against the rising “tide of anti-Islam and anti-Muslim violence” in India and urged parliamentarians to convey the sentiments to the Indian Prime Minister (PM), Narendra Modi, to ensure the protection of the Muslim community in India.
Minister Shazia Marri also stressed the need for stability in the social, economic, and political sectors across Pakistan. Expressing her concerns over the “derailment of democracy in Pakistan”, Marri urged the judiciary and other state departments to focus on bringing harmony and avoid a further divide. Otherwise, the country could be pushed toward “irreversible consequences”, she cautioned.
Highlighting PPP’s role in passing the Constitution of 1973, and for the promotion and protection of democracy in the state, Marri reiterated that the parliament is a supreme body that represents the aspirations of the general public. She added that the supremacy of the parliament should thereby be respected by all including the higher courts.

To disrespect the “trichotomy of power and privileges” will lead to disharmony and anarchy in the country, added the Federal Minister. On the other hand, the BISP chairman added that all institutions must play a role in bringing back order to the country, currently in “chaos”.
The political leader further declared that her political leadership is ready for “transparent, free, and fair elections on a level playing field”. However, she stressed that candidates should not be selected on basis of favoritism rather elections should reflect the state’s dedication to providing justice and an equal playing field to all contending parties. Furthermore, she said, the lives of the public or the candidates should not be threatened during the election campaign.
Talking about the politics of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and its Chairman Imran Khan, Shazia Marri said the party’s politics was “nurtured in the drawing rooms” and was “committed to bring[ing] this person to power”. Talking about the divide among the honorable judges of the Supreme Court (SC), Marri said it does not reflect well on the people of Pakistan or for the country, in general.
Concluding her address, the Federal Minister said that the court’s verdict should be based on the “democratic principle of majority vote”.
