The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claimed to have arrested another suspected member of a cell operated by Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) in Karachi.
According to FIA officials, the suspect was serving as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in the special branch of the police and was a key member of a RAW sleeper cell.
The officials further said the accused ASI was on surveillance duty at the Karachi airport at the time of the arrest. The accused had been recruited in Sindh Police in the year 1991 and was a member of MQM’s London group, According to FIA officials.
Officials added that the accused had visited India in 2008 to receive training.
Last month, another police officer from Karachi was arrested for allegedly working for RAW. According to police officials, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the police and other undercover bodies had arrested ASI Shehzad Pervaiz from Gulistan-e-Jauhar in Karachi.
Notably, the police had recently claimed to arrest Shahid Ilyas alias ‘Muttahida’ and his two accomplices in Karachi allegedly affiliated with the Indian spy agency.
Additional Inspector General (AIG) Ghulam Nabi Memon in a press conference said that the arrested person identified as Shahid alias Muttahida is the head of RAW’s terror wing.
Senior superintendent of police for the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Syed Irfan Ali Bahadur said the four alleged militants were apprehended during a targeted operation carried out by the Sindh Police’s SIU personnel and federal intelligence agencies.
