Ukraine government sites experience yet another cyber attack

Sept 24, 2021: The FIA reportedly arrested a father and son for sexually extorting and harassing a minor girl from the United States.

According to FIA Deputy Director Tahir Khan, a complaint was lodged with the FIA through its US counterpart, the FBI and an immediate inquiry was launched. The father was released because the son confessed to his heinous crime.

It is now apparent that the cybercrime wing of the Federal Investigation Agency has arrested a teenager here after receiving a complaint from its US counterpart, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), about a man accused of hacking a minor’s SnapChat account.

Arrested on charges of pornography and criminal intimidation of a girl and blackmailing her.

FIA officials told Dawn that Anas Tariq, the son of a retired government official, was arrested late Wednesday night in the Phase VI area of Hayatabad. The youth, who was a BBA student at a local university, was arrested on the basis of information provided by the FBI, said Tahir Khan, deputy director of the FIA’s cybercrime wing.

He said that according to information shared by US authorities, the suspect hacked the SnapChat account of a minor girl from Reston, Virginia, accessed nude photos of her on the account and tried to force her in to nude video chat.

The official said that although the FIA was sending the accused’s mobile phone for forensic analysis, previously recovered data confirmed the allegations against him.

The FIR further said that the Child Pornography Cell of the FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing has launched an inquiry into a man from the Hayatabad area of Peshawar who sexually harassed a minor from Virginia.

Khan said that on July 1, the FBI’s Washington field office was notified that a minor girl in the Reston neighborhood of Virginia had been sexually harassed. The minor girl’s snap chat account was seized on June 1 by an unknown person who later locked the victim from her account and threatened to retrieve it from the hacked account and if the minor did not do so, engaged in video chat with him and prepared child pornography for him.

“On or about July 12, 2021, the subject using the girl’s account distributed the nude photo of the [minor] to [her] Snapchat contact via direct message,” the FIR read.

The FBI said juveniles and law enforcement agencies tried to contact SnapChat on several occasions to deactivate the hacked account, but they did not respond.

Facebook, a popular social networking site, provided details of its Instagram account, Kernia_226, after which the FBI shared it with the FIA.

The FIR said that under the search and arrest warrant, the FIA raided the house of the accused, detained him along with his father and confiscated his mobile phone.

The accused’s father told FIA investigators that his son was using a registered mobile number against his computerized national identity card number. The accused also confessed to using the SIM card.

The FIA later released the accused’s father on bail.

The accused confessed to hacking the minor girl’s snap chat account, accessing nude photos of her from a folder and using those photos to blackmail her.
