First Pakistani journalist dies from Coronavirus

The Pakistani news industry is mourning the death of a journalist who died as a result of the coronavirus today in Islamabad.

The deceased journalist, Abdul Rasheed Bhatti was the former president of APP employees’ union.

Earlier in March, three Pakistani reporters were tested positive for coronavirus. All three, whose names were not disclosed, were based in Lahore.

Meanwhile, the head of a newspaper union claimed three more reporters (two in Punjab and one in Karachi) were infected of the virus.

He lamented the lack of safety kits for beat reporters.

While staffers in digital newsrooms have been asked to work from home, TV reporters have to be out in the field to update the masses.

In a recent development, ARY’s office in Islamabad has been closed after 8 people have reported positive for the novel coronavirus.

20 tests were performed as a precautionary measure by the administration after 2 people showed symptoms of COVID-19.
