Five memoranda of understanding signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia: Shah Mahmood Qureshi

May 8, 2021: According to BaaghiTV, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan has arrived in Saudi Arabia on a three-day visit where he was received by Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman at Jeddah Airport.

Imran Khan and Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa met Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman. Separate meetings were held to discuss the situation in the region. In addition, 5 Memoranda of Understanding between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have been signed.

According to the Pakistani Foreign Minister, the atmosphere of the meetings was very friendly and the warmth was evident. He said that he had a meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal in which the Saudi Foreign Minister expressed confidence in the recent outreach in the region. I took – Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who was part of the delegation, said that the Saudi Crown Prince briefed us in detail on the outline of Saudi Arabia’s vision. The meeting discussed in detail the situation in the region, including the Afghan peace process.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said in his statement that the Prime Minister and Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman signed a memorandum of understanding, including the establishment of the Saudi-Pakistan Supreme Coordination Council, MoUs to prevent drug trafficking. Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed MoUs for investment in energy and hydropower projects, while memoranda of understanding were signed for investment in infrastructure, transport, and water resources projects.

Memorandums of Understanding between the two countries on cooperation in crime prevention and the transfer of convicted prisoners are also included. Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that most of the required workforce will be taken from Pakistan.
