Lahore, 29th July: Five out of ten Pakistani athletes who went to the Tokyo Olympics 2020 have been eliminated from the Games without winning any medals.

According to details, a total of ten Pakistani athletes had gone to Tokyo to participate in the Olympics 2020. Out of ten participants, five have been eliminated from the Games.

These athletes are as follow:

1. Gulfam Joseph

Shooter Gulfam Joseph was the first Pakistani athlete who got eliminated, he completed the 10m air-pistol shooting competition. According to the rules, eight out of 36 shooters had to qualify for the final round. Gulfam had a tie with two shooters from China and Serbia who were at No, 7 and 8 respectively with the same score of 578/600. Due to a minor difference in the scores, Gulfam was eliminated and remained at the 9th position.

Mahnoor Shahzad, a badminton player was competing for the first time in the Olympics. She could not win a single match and was defeated by a Japanese player and a player from England, after which she was knocked out of the event.

 

3. Talha Talib

Weightlifter Talha Talib was the third athlete to be eliminated. He lifted a total of 320 kg of weight. He held the gold medal spot until the final round where he finished fifth. Talib was defeated by an Italian weightlifter, Marko Zanni. Zanni bagged the bronze medal after lifting 322 kg. Talha Talib has received a lot of praise from all Pakistanis.

4. Haseeb Tariq

Swimmer Haseeb Tariq was the fourth olympian from Pakistan who failed to win a gold medal. He was contesting for the men’s 100m freestyle swimming race. Out of the total of 70, Tariq finished the race at the 62nd position.

5. Shah Hussain Shah

Shah Hussain Shah, Pakistani judoka is the son of Hussain Shah, who won a bronze medal in the 1998 Seoul Olympics. Shah Hussain was defeated by the Egyptian judoka Ramadan Darwish in the first round. Shah could only last for three minutes and nine seconds in the match.

Henceforth, with five athletes out of the Olympics, five more are still to compete. Tomorrow, Pakistani swimmer Bismillah Khan will participate in the 50m freestyle race.

Saina Nehwal Almost Out of Tokyo Olympics

Meanwhile, shooters Khalil Akhtar and Ghulam Bashir will participate in the 25-meter rapid fire pistol competition on August 1.

According to reports, on August 2, Najma Parveen will compete in a two-meter race. And Arshad Nadeem will be in action in the javelin throw on August 4.

It is to be noted that Tokyo Olympics 2020 was rescheduled for this year after COVID-19 postponed all sports events last year. The mega-event started on 23 July and will end on 8 August 2021 in Tokyo.
