Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani to visit Iran

Tehran (4th Jan, 2020): Qatar’s Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, is set to visit Iran on Saturday. 

According to Baaghi TV’s reports, Qatar’s Foreign Minister will visit Iran on Saturday following the assassination of Iran’s General Qassem Suleimani. The visit has been confirmed by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

Ministry spokesperson Abbas Mousavi has confirmed on popular social networking cite, Twitter, that the Qatari diplomat is expected to hold talks with Iran’s Foreign Minister, Javed Zarif, during his visit to Tehran. Moreover, according to Al Jazeera television, the Qatari minister is due to arrive in Iran but have yet to disclose further details. there has been no comments from Qatari authorities, concerning the matter of the diplomatic visit, however, the news comes a day after the assassination of Iran’s top General Suleimani in a US drone attack.

While, United States and Iran have been engaged in escalated tensions following the death of Qassem Suleimani, under orders of the United States President, Donald Trump. The countries have been at a fever pitch since the US withdrew Washington from a 2015 nuclear pact with Tehran.

It is to be noted that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has vowed “severe retaliation” against United States in the aftermath of Suleimani’s death. Apart from being one of Iran’s top commanders, Suleimani was also the head of Iran’s  Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force which has approximately twenty thousand members till date.
