Lahore, 22nd October: At Saudi Arabia’s role in the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), Foreign Office in Pakistan took a stand.

Baaghi TV: Pakistan’s Foreign Office has strongly denied reports on social media that Saudi Arabia does not support the FATF issue.

Responding to media queries, the Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman termed such reports as completely false and baseless.

The spokesman said in his statement that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have fraternal relations and the two countries have always cooperated with each other on all issues of mutual, regional and international importance.

“Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with the brotherly country of Saudi Arabia and strongly rejects such nefarious propaganda.”

The Foreign Office said in a statement that the international money-laundering watchdog, FATF, would review progress on Pakistan’s action plan and announce future issues after its plenary meeting.

It may be recalled that since Thursday morning, negative propaganda about Saudi Arabia was being spread on Twitter and other social media platforms in Pakistan regarding Pakistan’s removal from the FATF grey list, after which the Foreign Office issued an explanation.

The FATF meeting will run from October 21 to October 23 and is being held online due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The meeting will review Pakistan’s progress so far in the areas of money laundering and terror financing, on the basis of which it will be decided whether to put Pakistan on a further grey list or not.
