Forest fires in Uttarakhand have now reached Nainital, sending smoke billowing through the hill town. The flames have reportedly reached Nainital’s High Court Colony, prompting the administration to seek help from Army personnel to control the blaze.

A helicopter has also been pressed into service to aid the fire-fighting efforts. The authorities have banned boating in Nainital Lake.

“The fire has engulfed an old and vacant house located near The Pines. It has not caused any damage to the High Court Colony, but it has reached dangerously close to the buildings,” the assistant registrar of the High Court told PTI.
