Former CEO's recommendations to increase freight income on the railways

Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pakistan Railways, Ijaz Ahmed Barero, while making recommendations to the higher authorities to overcome the obstacles in the freight business, said that if some necessary steps were taken, the annual revenue can increase from Rs 18 billion to Rs 35 billion.

According to sources, Ejaz Ahmed Barero issued a report to Federal Minister of Railways Azam Khan Swati, Board Chairman Pakistan Railways Dr Habib-ur-Rehman Gilani, and others, containing recommendations.

.He has sent these recommendations on behalf of the Ministry of Railways to seek suggestions from various senior officials in Pakistan Railways.

The freight section of Pakistan Railways has no business plan or operational management or efficiency due to which its utilization is declining beyond capacity, use of rotten wagons, increase in transit time, improper publicity and other issues.

There are no facilities for customers in the railways, the average speed of freight trains is 18 km per hour due to engineering restrictions while the signal system is also poor.

Despite availability, ZNRV (brakes) are not available, the system has unnecessary DVS (Damage Vehicle for Sick Line) and the lack of qualified offices to control the system is also part of the problem.
