A French diplomat denied the media report of Hassan Rouhani being invited to this month’s G7 summit in European leaders’ attempts to defuse the brewing conflict between Iran and the US.

Responding to the rumor of French President Emmanuel Macron’s invitation to Rouhani for attending the summit to meet Donald Trump, the French official claimed the report to be far from truth.

Earlier, Iran’s vice president, Eshaq Jahangiri, reported a discussion of many issues between Macron and Rouhani over a phone call.

In reaction to the United States’ withdrawal from the nuclear agreement between the two rivals by Trump administration, which pushed Iran into economic sanctions, Iran backed out of some of the deals related to limiting its nuclear activities under the “Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action”.

Referring to this, the French diplomat, talking to Reuters, said, “the priority is that Iran adheres to its nuclear obligations.”
