May 17, 2021: In Hunza district of Gilgit-Baltistan, water has started seeping from the Shispar Glacier which has been closed for 7 months.

BaaghiTV: According to the details, water has started leaking from Shispar Glacier in Hunza which has been closed for 7 months, while water level in Hassanabad Nullah is also continuously increasing. Leakage of water in the lake had stopped since October last year. According to Deputy Commissioner Hunza, Fayyaz Ahmed, all security measures have been taken, a security wall has been constructed to keep the population safe, while a control room has also been set up.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the next 24 hours are very important, in case of discharge of 4,000 cusecs of water, the risk of loss is less, however, in case of danger, 30 families will be shifted to safer places. It should be noted that three years ago, the slip of the Shispar Glacier created a lake between the mountains on the other side of the glacier, which releases water during the summer and stops the flow of water in the winter.
