According to the reports, funeral prayers of former Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hassan will be offered at Zohar time in Eid Gah Ground Nazimabad, Karachi.

According to details, the funeral prayers of former Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Syed Munawar Hassan who passed away in a private hospital yesterday after a long illness will be offered today.

Officials of religious, political and social organizations of the country have expressed their deep sorrow over the demise of Syed Munawar Hassan. The leaders offered condolences to his family and prayed for his forgiveness and elevation.

Syed Munawar Hassan played a key role in the formation of political alliances in Pakistan. Munawar Hassan was born in Delhi on August 5, 1941. After the formation of Pakistan, his family settled in Karachi. He did Masters in Sociology in 1963 and in Islamic Studies in 1966.

A graduate of Karachi University, Munawar Hassan was also associated with the National Students Federation. He became associated with the Islamic Jamiat Students in 1960. In 1963, he became associated with the Islamic Research Academy.

Syed Munawar Hassan was also the Managing Editor of The Criterion and The Universal Message of the University of Karachi. Munawar Hassan became a member of Jamaat-e-Islami in 1967. In 1967, Munawar Hassan was the Assistant Secretary and Deputy Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi.

Munawar Hassan also remained active in various political alliances. He also played a role in the Pakistan National Alliance and the United Democrats. In 1977, he was elected a member of the National Assembly from Karachi.

In 1977, Munawar Hassan also had the honor of getting the highest number of votes for the National Assembly seat in the country. In 1992-93, he held the post of Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami. In 2009, he was elected Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan for the first time.
