Germany’s foreign minister warns against guessing Russia’s decision over Ukraine

Feb 20, 2022: According to a report by AFP, Germany’s foreign minister warned on Saturday against trying to gauge or assume Russia’s decisions on Ukraine, when US President Joe Biden said he believed Russian leader Vladimir Putin had decided to attack.
Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said, “In crisis situations, the most inappropriate thing to do is to somehow guess or assume, my urgent appeal to all is that we look closely at the facts on the ground”, Baerbock said, warning against the risk of “targeted disinformation”.
“We do not know yet if an attack has been decided on,” the German minister said, adding that the “threat against Ukraine is very real”.
In addition, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytry Kuleba said his country was preparing to deal with “every possible scenario”.
Baerbock made the remarks at a press conference after hosting a meeting of G7 foreign ministers on the sidelines of the annual Munich Security Conference. The group of seven most developed countries in the world has reaffirmed that they are “united” in support of Ukraine and are committed to responding to any violation of its sovereignty.
“Pull your troops back, avoid damage to Russia and Ukraine and let us talk,” Baerbock said in an appeal to Putin.
