Global powers in talks due to Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict?

Following the renewal of hostilities in the Azerbaijan-Armenia region due to the Nagorno-Karabakh territory, global powers decide to hold talks in Geneva.

According to reports of Baaghi TV, France, United States and Russia plan to step up efforts for talks in Geneva as fears mount pertaining to regional stability.

Jean-Yves Le Drian, Foreign Minister for France has said that representatives from France, Russia and the US would meet in Moscow on Monday to look at the ways in which they can persuade the Azerbaijan and Armenia, both former Soviet Union states, to come to a decision pertaining to ceasefire negotiations.

It is to be noted that France, Russia and US are all included in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s (OSCE) Minsk Group that works to mediate the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Meanwhile, Turkey having offered unconditional support for Azerbaijan demands Minsk group to not get involved in mediating conflict.

According to reports of Baaghi TV, former Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, is set to visit Geneva to meet with leaders of the Organization jointly chaired by diplomats from Russia, France and the United States. It is pertinent to note that the renewed hostilities come at a period of international distraction due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the upcoming US elections which may divert attention from the cause of Azerbaijan, if future ceasefire negotiations are agreed upon.

It is pertinent to note that if the conflict lasts longer, there may be a shift in political dynamics with Turkey and Russia having to make significant strategic decisions.
