The Golden Ring Economic Forum (GREF) which was established in 2015, was first conceptualized as the Golden Ring Economic Bloc in 2010. Based on geographical preference and/or area of interest, businessmen, diplomats, scholars and servicemen et cetera from China, Iran, Pakistan, Russia and Turkey are members of the GREF. Central Asian states may also become members in future.

Since almost thirty percent of the total world resources come under the control of these countries, they are referred to as the “Golden Ring”. Historically speaking, the member countries make up for some of the world’s most important civilizations. For instance, Pakistan which is significant for its geo-strategic centering, is on the mouth of the Persian Gulf, close to the Strait of Hormuz and the Indian Ocean in the south. On its northern side, Pakistan connects with China, Afghanistan and Central Asia. While on the West side, it connects with Afghanistan and Iran, and with India in the East. Moreover, Pakistan’s geographical placement proves beneficial for China, Russia, Central Asia and the Middle East. Leading to what is considered, a natural formation of an economic bloc, which includes the major countries of the Eurasian region.

The first session of annual webinar on “Shared Economic Recovery”, a conversational series involving international experts, will take place on 29th July in collaboration with Golden Ring Economic Forum and University of Management and Technology, Lahore.

The key partners in organizing this webinar also include the Office of Research Innovation and Communication. Originally scheduled as face-to-face workshops, a revised webinar format is now the best alternative to access the same expert information and speakers given the current situation with COVID-19.

The interactive session will be graced by:

  1. H.E. Yao Jing | Chair and Chief Guest, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China
  2. Chen Jiancheng | CHAIRMAN & CEO Beijing Sky Century Information Technology Co. Ltd.
  3. Amb. (R) Masood Khalid | Former Ambassador of Pakistan to China

  5. Dr Ahsan Abbas | Sr. Research Fellow, Center for Excellence for CEPEC, PIDE, Islamabad

The series of webinars will provide tools and advice on decision making, rebuilding, and setting economic priorities. Notably, the Golden Ring Economic Forum upholds the notion of assisting in formulation of common policy framework for developing strategic economic interests among member countries for establishing a new strategic economic bloc.

GREF aims to act as a bridge between policy makers and stakeholders by providing key insight and taking economic experts on board to initiate and coordinate joint research programs for strategic economic projects in member states.
