Government declares YouTube under ‘Media Category’

Lahore, 24th April: The secret behind the government’s decision to bring YouTube channels in the ‘media category’ has not yet come to light.

According to reports, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan said that we will activate the desk in the department for the press information for the registration of the owners of YouTube channels.

During a media briefing in Islamabad, she said that in today’s meeting, Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to mobilize the youth in the fight against the coronavirus.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan further clarified that those running YouTube channels can register with the Pakistan Information Department to spread information about the coronavirus. Firdous Ashiq Awan said that already active owners of YouTube channels should contact PID for registration.

Firdous Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Information and Broadcasting, said that a large number of youths are aware of the better use of YouTube, but they will also be given basic training through Information Academy so that they can generate financial resources for themselves.

The Special Assistant said that the government can get approval from the Ministry of Information for the owners of YouTube channels. In this way, the people of the digital platform affected by the wire will be able to earn income in difficult times.

Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the Line of Action SOPs will be prepared and the owners will register their YouTube channels and cards will be issued to the owners by registering them in PID on the basis of merit.

The Special Assistant said that the potential of the youth can be enhanced through short-term training which will enable them to increase their financial resources.
