Government taking steps to revive tourism in the country

PESHAWAR: The government has taken important steps for the promotion of tourism in the country for three tourist areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The decision will play an important role in maintaining the natural beauty of the said areas.

According to the details, approval has been given to set up separate authorities for Kalam, Kumrat and Kailash tourist destinations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The documents state that the establishment of the authorities will further boost tourism in the area, adding that the authorities will play a role in maintaining the natural beauty of the area. Sources said that each authority headed by the director general will consist of 11 members, however, the director general will have the power to take action on violations of the rules.

According to the documents, violation of cell construction or building will result in 3 years imprisonment and/or a fine of Rs 1 million while, construction of unauthorized housing schemes will carry 3 years imprisonment and/or a fine of Rs 5 million. Similarly, the perpetrators of trespassing will be sentenced to 3 years imprisonment and/or a fine of Rs 2 million or both.

It is to be noted that various measures are being taken by the government to promote tourism in the country. It has also been decided to open 60 new tourist destinations in Pakistan by 2022 to promote tourism.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Zulfi Bukhari said that the tourism sector has suffered a huge loss due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, we will ensure facilities for the tourists in the winter tourist destinations.

It is to be noted that on August 26, 2020, Prime Minister Imran Khan had also constituted a National Coordination Committee on Tourism with immediate effect.
