‘Grey’s Anatomy’ likely to return for Season 20 without Pompeo
After leading lady Ellen Pompeo, Kelly McCreary, and showrunner Krista Vernoff announced their departures from Grey’s Anatomy, fans were left speculating if the medical drama would return for its 20th Season.
According to E! News, despite the series undergoing many changes in the last season with Ellen Pompeo who plays the titular character of Dr. Meredith Grey announcing her departure followed by showrunner Vernoff and McCreary also leaving, the series will most probably be returning for a 20th Season.

Although the beloved Grey Sloan Memorial hospital will not be the same for fans of the series, there are reports Pompeo will be returning for guest appearances along with Kelly McCreary who plays the role of Dr. Maggie Pierce. According to E! News, Pompeo will be returning from “Boston” for the finale of Season 19 (May 18) while McCreary will make her last official appearance on the April 13 episode, she is expected to return towards the end of the season.
What’s more, there is speculation that Pompeo will return “in some capacity” for the upcoming season.

On the other hand, Krista Vernoff who has maintained her position as the showrunner for the medical drama since Season 14 back in 2017, has also announced her departure. Prior to this position, Vernoff had served as the executive producer on the first seven seasons of Grey’s Anatomy.
According to reports, Vernoff is set to be replaced by Meg Marinis, who has served as the executive producer for the series since Season 15.
