Heavy flooding in Western Europe causes more than 180 deaths

Lahore, 18th July: Death toll in Western Europe has risen above 180 due to torrential flooding as rescuers dig deeper into debris.

According to reports from police, the death toll from the Ahrweiler area of western Germany’s Rhineland-Palatinate state may rise above 110 as they fear the number may still rise.

Meanwhile, in Germany’s most populous area, North Rhine-Westphalia state, 45 people were confirmed dead, including 4 firefighters on Sunday.

Rains inundate Germany and Belgium

On the other hand, 27 casualties have been reported from Belgium.

As per reports, later on Sunday, Chancellor Angela Merkel is due to visit Schuld, a village near Ahrweiler that was devastated by the flooding.

Earlier on Saturday, Germany’s President visited the effected area and said that it will need long-term support.

According to details, on Saturday night there was flooding in the German-Czech border area, Germany’s southeastern corner and over the border in Austria from where last week’s floods had hit.

Reports coming from the area told that around 65 people were evacuated from Germany’s Berchtesgaden area after the Ache River swelled and at least 1 person got killed.

While, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz posted on his Twitter handle that heavy rain and storms were causing serious damage in several parts of Austria.
