Hockey, Ball Stolen from Samiullah's Statue in Bahawalpur

A hockey and ball have been stolen from the statue of National hockey hero Olympian Samiullah that was erected in Bahawalpur district of the Punjab province.

According to the details, a spokesman of the district police confirmed that the ball was stolen two days ago while the hockey was also stolen on Saturday night. Samiullah’s statue was erected about a month ago in the Model Town area of ​​Bahawalpur.

Olympian Samiullah was born on September 6, 1951 in Bahawalpur and has represented Pakistan in a number of international hockey tournaments from the 1976 Montreal Olympics to 1982.

Due to Samiullah’s speed, he was given the title of Flying Horse.

Twitter user Waqar Ahmed shared a photo of the statue and wrote “Ignorance at its peak, A statue of National hero Olympian Samiullah was erected in Bahawalpur. Someone stole the hockey and the ball in this statue.”

 

 

On August 14, 1983, Samiullah was awarded the Presidential Medal of Excellence by the Government of Pakistan.
