IG Punjab orders fresh scrutiny of security companies working with Chinese citizens

Lahore: Following the unfortunate incident of killing of nine Chinese nationals near hydropower plant site in the remote upper Kohistan region, the Punjab Police seems to be taking things seriously as IG Punjab chaired a video link conference on Eid-ul-Adha security plan, CPEC projects and security of Chinese citizens.
Fresh scrutiny of private staff and security companies working with Chinese citizens as focal persons and drivers would be conducted.
On Eid-ul-Adha, about 47,000 officers and personnel will be on duty for the security of 25,672 mosques, imambargahs and Eid congregatios in open spaces across the province.
On Eid-ul-Adha, notification has been issued to cancel the leave of officers and personnel posted in the field formations of Punjab Police.
There should be no delay in departmental and legal proceedings under zero tolerance against those responsible for deaths, torture and escape in police custody.
Inspector General of Police Punjab Inam Ghani has said that foolproof security of Chinese experts working on CPEC projects, Chinese investors coming to Pakistan for business activities, businessmen and ordinary Chinese citizens is being provided on priority basis by  Punjab Police and Special Protection Unit (SPU) is also operational in this regard.  All the supervisory officers are told to review the security arrangements of CPEC projects for further improvement in the security arrangements.
He further said that fresh security audit of all CPEC, non-CPEC and private projects of Chinese citizens across the province would be done while fresh scrutiny of private staff working as focal persons and drivers with Chinese citizens would also be undertaken.
IGP further said that , all private security companies that provide security guards or other staff to Chinese citizens should  be subjected to a fresh security audit.
He added that CTD, Special Branch and local police should conduct search, sweep and combing operations in the vicinity of Chinese nationals’ residences, offices, business centers and projects and it  should be continued on a daily basis while District Intelligence Committees should reconsider whether the Chinese nationals working privately in Pakistan need security and  security arrangements  should be increased as per requirement after mutual consultation.

He further said that all available resources should be utilized for the security of Eid gatherings at mosques, imambargahs and open spaces across the province on Eid-ul-Adha while special attention should be paid to the security of cattle markets and traffic management.
He further said that in view of the arrival of Muharram, consultations should be initiated with the peace committees and stakeholders for comprehensive security arrangements so that better security arrangements could be made with effective coordination.

He further said that there should be no delay in departmental and legal action against those responsible for deaths, torture and escape in police custody under Zero Tolerance while Additional IG Investigation should  brief about the cases registered against police personnel and their progress after Eid. He issued these instructions while presiding over a video link conference today while giving instructions to all RPOs, CPOs and DPOs of the province.
During the meeting, Additional IG Operations Sahibzada Shehzad Sultan while briefing IG Punjab said that on Eid-ul-Adha, there will be Eid gatherings at 25672 mosques, imambargahs, minority places of worship and open spaces across the province and around 47 thousand police officers and officials shall  perform security duties during this event . He further said that 250 Gazetted Officers, 537 Inspectors, 1680 Sub-Inspectors, 3171 ASIs, 2387 Head Constables, 27869 Constables, 9093 Police National Volunteers, 3329 Special Police and 222 QRF Teams will also be deployed at the sensitive places whereas 242 walk through gates ,12373 metal detectors and 10640 CCTV cameras shall also be installed for security purposes.
The IG Punjab stressed that complete checking and clearance of sensitive mosques, imambargahs and other Eid gatherings should be ensured before Eid prayers while snipers on the roofs of A category mosques and imambargahs and commandos in plain clothes inside Eid gatherings must be   deployed while immediate action against violators should not be delayed while strictly enforcing the ban on collection of sacrificial skins by unauthorized or banned organizations.
In addition, IG Punjab has issued orders to cancel the leave of all officers and personnel posted in the field formations of Punjab Police on Eid-ul-Adha to protect the lives and property of the citizens and maintain an atmosphere of law and order.
