IHC again issues notices on Zahir’s parents’ post-arrest bail

Sept 14. 2021: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has re-issued notices on bail applications following the arrest of the parents of Zahir Jaffer, the main accused in the Noor Muqaddam murder case.

Justice Amir Farooq was hearing the bail pleas of the accused’s father Zakir Jaffer and his mother Ismat Adam Ji after their arrest on Monday. During the hearing, the court directed Noor’s family lawyer Advocate Shah Khawar to present his power of attorney. The lawyer assured that he would submit it on Monday. He said that the application for suspension of bail of therapy works employees was also pending in the High Court and asked the court to merge the two applications.

However, Justice Amir Farooq said that the rules for suspending and granting bail were completely different, so the two petitions would be heard separately.

The court adjourned the hearing till September 15. Meanwhile, friends of the victim protested outside the IHC during the hearing of the case. Along with the victim’s father, members of civil society also joined the protest. Protesters held placards with slogans calling for justice for the victim and protesting against the bail of alleged advertisers in the crime.

Speaking to the Express Tribune, Noor’s sister Sarah Mukadam said she wanted justice so that the atrocities against other girls would not be repeated. He expressed hope for justice and vowed to stand firm for this cause till justice is done. Noor’s brother Ali Muqaddam and cousin Faisal said they stand not only for Noor but for every member of the nation because similar cases had not been convicted in the past.
