Illegal high-rises around Lahore Airport dangerous for flights
LAHORE: The Lahore airport management has urged the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and relevant departments that illegal high-rise buildings, colonies and constructions near the landing area are dangerous and can cause accidents at any point.
Lahore Airport Manager Akhtar Mirza has informed the CAA in writing and also sent separate letters to the Commissioner Lahore and director-general (DG) Lahore Development Authority (LDA).
Akhtar Mirza said in his letter that illegal constructions around the take off and approach area could lead to an accident at any time.

He said that the CAA does not have the authority to take action against illegal constructions and that the LDA should be urged to take notice of the problem.
He further said that illegal constructions have been carried out in an area of 15 km around the airport. The Lahore Airport Manager has also demanded to take notice against the Building Control Authority.
Earlier, on May 22, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-8303 crashed in a residential area near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport a minute before landing.

The Karachi-bound PIA flight carrying 99 passengers had crashed near Model Colony in Malir, right outside the airport’s boundary wall and mere seconds before it was to make an emergency landing.
Only two survived the crash — the chief executive of the Bank of Punjab and a young engineer.
The actual reason for the crash remains unknown as investigations are underway.
