Important announcement by Saudi Govt regarding ID cards and residency

Riyadh: According to the reports of Baaghi TV, Saudi officials say it is forbidden to have a national identity card or residency as a mortgage. No Saudi or foreigner resident is authorized to hold an ID card or residence permit with any institution or individual. Action will be taken against those who do so.

According to Saudi media, the Department of Civil Affairs under the Ministry of Interior has warned them not to keep their national identity cards as collateral under any circumstances, as anyone who does so will be questioned.

The Department of Civil Affairs said in a message issued under the awareness campaign on Thursday that the national identity card and residency is an official document and it is forbidden to mortgage it with any institution.

Remember that according to Saudi law, holding an ID card mortgage can result in a fine of up to 5,000 riyals. The Passport Department has repeatedly warned that no foreign residence card can be kept as a mortgage with anyone. Doing so will be questioned.
