India elected as non-permanent member of the UN Security Council

Thursday, June 18th: According to Baaghi TV reports, India has been elected a member of the non-permanent seat of the Security Council, while Turkey’s Volkan Buzkir has been elected President of the UN General Assembly.

India has been elected a non-permanent member of the Security Council by 184 of the 192 countries of the United Nations, after which India has been elected a non-permanent member of the Security Council from 1st January 2021 to 31st December 2022.

Apart from India, Ireland, Mexico and Norway have also been elected to the Security Council in non-permanent seats.

New Delhi’s candidacy was unanimously endorsed by the 55-member Asia-Pacific group in June last year. India’s two-year term will begin on January 1st, 2021. This is the eighth time that India has become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, consisting of five permanent members and 10 non-permanent members.

The temporary membership of the Security Council is 2 years. The Security Council has 5 permanent members and all UN member states have temporary membership. Pakistan and India have been members of the Security Council many times.
