The Jammu region of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has been placed on high alert, with Indian forces intensifying restrictions, frisking, and monitoring across mountainous and Line of Control areas.
Checkpoints have been established at multiple locations, and police alongside army-controlled Village Defence Guards (VDGs) have been put on heightened alert, especially in border-adjacent and sensitive zones.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Samba, Virender Singh, chaired a meeting with VDG members at District Police Lines (DPL) Samba to review the prevailing situation. “The meeting aimed to brief VDG members on the current scenario and ensure close coordination with police and other Indian armed forces,” a police statement said.
The SSP highlighted ongoing weapon handling and firing practice sessions for VDGs and directed officers to hold such drills regularly to maintain operational readiness.
Meanwhile, Ramban SSP Arun Gupta convened a joint coordination meeting with senior officials from the Indian Army’s Rashtriya Rifles units (12 RR, 23 RR, 48 RR, 11 Sector RR), paramilitary CRPF battalions (166 and 84), and central intelligence agencies. Discussions included fortification of vital installations, arrangements at newly opened tourist destinations, monitoring locals’ activities including social media and communication apps, and conducting mock drills to test response readiness.
Police in Kishtwar and Doda have also directed hotels and guesthouses to promptly report visiting persons through the designated portal, submit Form C on arrival, provide accurate guest information including passport and visa details, and ensure functional CCTV cameras at reception and entry/exit points.
The intensified restrictions and monitoring are part of Indian authorities’ ongoing efforts to control movement, surveil locals, and suppress any perceived dissent in the region.
