New Delhi, May 26, 2021: Social media messaging giant WhatsApp has launched legal action to stop India upholding new social media rules that threaten to break its data privacy laws, the messaging platform informed press on Wednesday.

The regulations taking effect the same day as being enacted, come during a period of developing strains between social media giants and the Indian government, which has requested tech organizations eliminate content that criticizes the regime of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

WhatsApp disclosed to press it had registered a case in the Delhi High Court.

The Facebook subsidiary didn’t give details of the legal activity however clarified its resistance and opposition to the new rules that would likewise influence Twitter, Instagram and different platforms.
