Indian Journalist Fired Over Tweets About Modi

Indian Journalist, Shyam Meera Singh, was fired from his job at the private news TV channel, Aj Tak, after making some tweets about Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Often Pakistani journalists complain about censorship and offer criticism on Prime Minister Imran Khan on Twitter, but to date, no such instance has been seen wherein someone was fired for expressing his opinions. However, Indian journalist, Shyam Meera Singh, had to pay a hefty price for a couple of tweets he made about the Indian Prime Minister Modi – the price being his job at the private TV news channel Aj Tak, under the India Today Group.
In a Twitter post, the journalist shared the two tweets he had made, wrote that due to these two tweets, his company fired him.

In the tweet, the Indian journalist had criticized the Modi government for not saying anything regarding the death of Pultizer-winning journalist, Danish Siddiqui, who was killed on the Afghan border covering the clash between the Taliban and Afghan forces. Singh used harsh words against Hindutva and the Modi government.
Modi is a shameless Prime Minister.

He further went on to state that those who ask that Prime Minister Modi must be respected must also ask him to respect the post of Prime Minister first.
Who says Respect the Prime Minister. They should first ask Modi to respect the post of Prime Minister post.

Reacting to his dismissal, the Indian journalist stated in another tweet, “I want to reiterate again and again and again. Yes! Modi is a shameless Prime Minister”,
Shyam Meera Singh also shared his termination letter, which contained the two tweets he had made. The letter was sent by India Today Group Digital’s HR business partner Vanchha Garg, who also detailed the company’s policies on social media and code of conduct, which stated that social media must only be used for news that has been aired or published, and not for personal views.

It is to be noted that recently, Reuters photojournalist, Danish Siddique, was killed in the clash between the Taliban and Afghan forces in Spin Buldak, Kandahar. In 2018, he won the Pultizer Prize for Feature Photography, as part of the Reuters team, for covering the Rohingya Refugee Crisis.
