Indian man wears gold face mask to ward off coronavirus
Businessman Shankar Kurhade wears a gold face mask worth $4,000 (approx. INR 300,000) amid the COVID-19 outbreak in Pune, India, on Saturday, July 4.
Following the spread of the coronavirus around the world, social distance as well as masks have become essential and that is why various types of masks are available in the market but Indian businessmen wears a mask made of gold.
The precious gold mask weighs two ounces and took craftsmen eight days to make, said businessman Shankar Kurhade, in the western city of Pune.
Shankar said that he does not know how much the gold mask helps in protecting from coronavirus, so he fulfills other precautions as well. Shankar Kurhade, 49, is keen to wear gold jewelry and wears a gold necklace, a gold bracelet and several gold rings. “People are shocked to see me wearing a gold mask and take selfies with me,” he added.
India has made wearing face masks mandatory in public places in a bid to control the spread of the coronavirus in the country, which has around 650,000 confirmed cases and more than 18,600 fatalities.
