Oct 26, 2021: A Muslim teacher was fired in Rajasthan, India, as she celebrated Pakistan’s historic victory in Sunday’s T20 World Cup match.

According to media reports, Nafisa Attari, a private school teacher, had posted WhatsApp statuses expressing happiness over India’s defeat in the opening match of the T20 World Cup. Attari happily shared pictures of Pakistani cricketers through his WhatsApp status and wrote “We wonnn”.

The matter came to light when a parent asked the teacher if she supported Pakistan and Attari replied “yes”. The school administration fired him after screenshots of the teacher’s status surfaced on WhatsApp.

Later, in a video statement, the teacher claimed that her post had been taken out of context. Attari said that during the match, her family was divided into two teams and each team supported both teams. Since her team was supporting Pakistan, she posted the status on WhatsApp.

This is not the only incident that happened after Pakistan defeated India in the match. Kashmiri students were also beaten in the college for celebrating Pakistan’s performance.

Dozens of people armed with hockey sticks and batons attacked him as he watched the final stages of the game, said a student at the Engineering and Technology Institute.

“We are safe now and we have the support of our college. But we did not expect that at all. We are Indians.”

Indian Muslim bowler Mohammad Shami was also subjected to online abuse after losing his first match of the World Cup.

The 31-year-old Shami became a target after the defeat in Dubai, although Indian captain Virat Kohli admitted that his team was “outplayed”.

Hundreds of messages were left on Shami’s Instagram account saying he was a “traitor” and should be dropped from the Indian team.
